    I'm Lauren and this is a blog dedicated to living life with a healthy balance. I love to run, strength train, bike and just be downright active. I'm a marathoner as of April 24, 2010 and am currently looking forward to qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

    I absolutely love to eat and enjoy great food but doing it all in moderation. You'll see healthy, organic foods on here frequently but you'll also run into things such as pizza and sweets. I believe you can have it all... just not all at once.

Childhood Lunch Memories

Thanks for all of your oatmeal suggestions! Maybe mine weren’t good the times I tried because I just used water and not milk. I’ll give that a try soon. Hope I fall in love with it!

My lunch today reminds me of childhood. I kid you not, I grew up eating a PB&J almost every single day from grade school through middle school. And I’ve eaten plenty of these through high school, college, nursing clinicals, at home and almost every day at work last fall. It’s just a great staple sandwich!

Now I used to eat it with chips every single day and some chocolate and coca-cola on the side but I’ve changed my ways.

I tried this new jam I bought at Fresh Market the other night.

I noticed the other day, after spreading it on my bread, that the Smucker’s Strawberry Jam that I’ve loved all my life contains high fructose corn syrup in it. Why must you do this to me Smucker’s?! I’ve been faithful for so long! So out with the old and in with the new! I was quite pleased with the taste of the new jam! And I loved their list of short, simple, natural, organic ingredients.

I’m still a changing my ways people… watch out!

Ok, I’m off and running! Here’s to hoping my day doesn’t turn out as crazy and physically demanding as it did yesterday after I ate lunch!

We’re off to a friends house to celebrate her birthday after work and it’s going to be another dessert dinner night. Just to warn you. It’s hard having a job that works until after other people’s dinner time! I end up eating a lot of dessert. What a shame! 🙂 See you later tonight friends!

Have you gotten rid of anything that you noticed had an ingredient in it that you didn’t agree with? Or, what’s a lunch that you still might eat every now and then that reminds you of childhood lunches?

  1. I have gotten rid of everything that contains high fructose corn syrup of partially hydrogrenated oils. Luckily, they make organic ketchup 😉

    Grilled cheese reminds me of being a kid because my mom used to make it for me all the time. These days, it’s rice “cheese” but close enough!

  2. Pizza pops remind me of my high school lunches 🙂 I try to avoid those now though!! I had my fair share – yikes!

    I try to avoid hydrogenated oils.
