    I'm Lauren and this is a blog dedicated to living life with a healthy balance. I love to run, strength train, bike and just be downright active. I'm a marathoner as of April 24, 2010 and am currently looking forward to qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

    I absolutely love to eat and enjoy great food but doing it all in moderation. You'll see healthy, organic foods on here frequently but you'll also run into things such as pizza and sweets. I believe you can have it all... just not all at once.

Good Morning!

Good morning friends! Guess who is on call from work again today? Yep… me!!! So technically I’m going to have a 4 1/2 day weekend! That NEVER happens. I’m pretty pumped about it. Especially since it’s Valentine’s Day weekend.

I woke up around 7 this morning with no alarm clock. Love when that happens. I have rest of the weekend to sleep in and veg. This morning I did end up laying in bed catching up on Tivo until about 9 and knew I needed to get up so I could finish my overnight oats, doctor them up and consume. It took longer than I thought to prepare but I finally got it together.

I added agave, almond butter and sliced banana.

Verdict: I’m not a fan. I’m so disappointed! I didn’t like the texture at all. I don’t know if there’s a difference of textures between steel cut and old fashioned but I need suggestions. I made 4 servings last night and I don’t want to waste the remaining 3 servings so what do I do?

I’m fine if I just don’t like them and I need to do other breakfast options but am I possibly doing something wrong while cooking them!? It just seems like so many people love their oats and I loved my instant oatmeal so why did I hate this? This is an open discussion so y’all jump right in and give me feedback!! I need major oat help!

Alright, I’m trying to figure out lunch and dinner for today and I’m going to head out at some point for a 3 mile run when it warms up a tad (a warm 32 degrees). Ok, the floor is open. You oat people, give me all you’ve got!!
